Vision And Mission - Water Matters Laboratory

Overview
The Water Matters is a laboratory for applied research and projects in Fluid Mechanics and Hydraulics. WML develops and promotes innovative projects with partners active in the world of research and strives to be an interactive window for a wide audience on the world of Water Engineering. The Water Chair of the Civil Engineering Faculty carries out basic and translational research spanning fundamental understanding of hydraulics and relevant issues. It covers a diverse portfolio in research, teaching across transversal themes. The Faculty of Civil Engineering is equipped with experimental and computational infrastructure and offers a fertile environment for research collaboration between various disciplines. KNTU, with its main campuses located in Tehran, is a dynamically growing and well-funded institution fostering excellence and diversity.
Our Vision
To be a leading hub of scientific excellence and innovation in water engineering, advancing resilient and sustainable solutions for river systems and natural hazards, while bridging research, policy, and public understanding of water matters.
Our Mission
The Water Matters Laboratory (WML) is dedicated to: Advancing knowledge in hydraulics, river morphology, and natural hazard mitigation through physical modeling, 3D numerical simulations, and hybrid approaches. Developing practical, data-driven solutions to address floods, droughts, sediment transport, and climate-related water challenges. Collaborating with academic, governmental, and industry partners to co-create impactful research and policy-relevant outcomes. Training the next generation of engineers and researchers through hands-on projects, interdisciplinary thinking, and ethical responsibility toward water. Engaging the broader public and stakeholders by communicating water science in accessible, meaningful ways.
Our Values
The equal opportunity policy at WML, is grounded in the Constitution of the Islamic Republic of Iran, national legislation, institutional bylaws, and strategic development plans set forth by the Ministry of Science, Research, and Technology and K. N. Toosi University of Technology. In alignment with these frameworks, at WML, we value diversity and are committed to creating an inclusive and family-friendly environment that promotes equality.
