New Postdoctoral Researcher Joins Water Matters Laboratory

Water Matters Laboratory (WML) is pleased to welcome Dr. Mostafa Kiani Shahvandi as a new full-time postdoctoral researcher, joining the team in September 2026. Dr. Kiani Shahvandi earned his Ph.D. in Theoretical-Methodological Geophysics from ETH Zürich in 2024, where his research focused on machine learning for geodetic time-series analysis and prediction. His doctoral thesis received the ETH Zürich Silver Medal for outstanding research. He later joined the University of Vienna as a postdoctoral researcher, working on machine learning applications in weather and climate dynamics. At WML, he will contribute to collaborative research at the intersection of artificial intelligence, Large Language Models, and human–water systems, with a particular focus on water demand and consumption prediction under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Mohammad Javad Ostad Mirza Tehrani.
