| Strengthening Collaborations
Building on a previous meeting in September 2024, Dr. Mohammad Javad Ostad Mirza Tehrani, Director of the Water Matters Laboratory (WML), visited Professor Mark Zeitoun, Director of the Geneva Water Hub (GWH)—a Centre of Competence on Water for Peace—alongside colleagues Natasha Carmi and Basilio Ghisletta at the GWH office in the World Meteorological Organization, Geneva. The discussions focused on potential collaborations between WML and GWH, highlighting shared research and applied interests in critical water-related issues. Water, War, and Wrath During the visit, Dr. Tehrani also attended a lunch briefing session titled “Water, War, and Wrath: The Banal Cruelty of Our Abuse of the World’s Most Precious Resource”, moderated by Anne Saab at the Maison de la Paix, Geneva Graduate Institute. In this session, Professor Zeitoun offered powerful insights into the weaponization of water in conflicts, with examples ranging from Palestine to Ukraine. The event underscored the urgency of protecting water as a fundamental human right and reinforced the moral imperative to prevent its misuse in times of war and political strife. Looking Ahead At the Water Matters Laboratory (WML), Faculty of Civil Engineering, K. N. Toosi University of Technology, we believe that scientific collaboration and knowledge-sharing are essential to addressing global water challenges. Our focus includes advancing water resilience, justice, and peace. We look forward to future engagements with the Geneva Water Hub and other institutions committed to safeguarding water for peace, while continuing to expand research and advocacy in support of water justice and sustainability.
